Hi, I'm Debbie, and this is a story about my family life locked down in Lesotho. You can read up on who we are in "About us," and hopefully enjoy some of our moments and memories so far under "A few lockdown moments so far." I would like to reiterate here that this blog is all about the good moments. I don't know what the definition of a "normal" household may imply, but I am sure that in many homes, especially in this time of stress and anxiety, that there is yelling, slamming of doors, and bad language. We have many of those moments too.
There are times when Michael and I resort to bribery to get the children to come on walks and have to force them to enjoy the outdoors. Our children do love their devices, and if they had the choice they would be glued to them day and night. We try our best to find a balance. Our children have 3 completely different personalities that for about 40 % of the day, clash like mad. I saw a quote today that epitomises the goings on in our house. "One minute your kids are laughing and hugging and making beautiful memories, and the next minute you are hosting a WWF match in your living room because one kid looked at the other kids's cereal the wrong way." (www.goldfishandchickennuggets.com).
My favourite comment this lockdown was from Thabo on Mother's Day. The children spoilt me with breakfast in bed and homemade cards. I said to them that I didn't deserve all this kindness as I can be a terrible mom. Gemma and Bryce immediately started saying kind things to make me feel better. Thabo proceeded to say "Mom, you're not always a terrible mom!"
It's hard for everyone out there at the moment, and I know we are all just trying our best. I really, truly hope that 1 of my posts or pictures can spark some joy in somebody's life. I would love to hear from you.
Best wishes,
Debbie
